You’ve done the hard bit, you’ve got a potential customer on your landing page. Out of the billions of webpages, the’ve have landed on yours!
The last thing you want to do, is show them the door, before the’ve even got to your punchy strapline.
One click on that lovely Facebook icon in the top right corner, and it’s – CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Old Schoolfriend Robbie has tagged them and now posting pics of their top 10 albums of the 90’s is their priority. Your website is sadly is a distant memory.
You have less than 15 seconds to get them interested in what you do.
If they haven’t found what they were looking for, they will leave.
Instead make it easy for them to do what YOU want – get in contact. The principle is the same for newsletter sign-up, contact form or telephone call or buy online. Focus on what you want them to do next.
How you do that is also very important and should be tested thoroughly. Very small details, even the shape of your buttons, can hugely improve conversion rates. However that’s for another day.
So is it time to ditch the social icons? No, Social media icons aren’t evil. People expect to see them on your website. Instead position them at the bottom of the website for sharing news and blog posts.
